Amazing result… Postecoglou starts his winning way with a defeat against “Benfica” reserve team

Al-Nasr’s new coach, Australian Ange Postecoglou, began his journey with Al-Alami with a shock defeat at the hands of Portuguese reserve team Benfica.

Today, Wednesday, during the “Global” camp in Lisbon, Portugal, “Al Nasr” lost 1-2 to the reserve team of “Benfica” in their closed friendly match.

Al-Nasr’s only goal came in the 4th minute from Abdulmalik Al-Jaber before the Saudi side conceded two goals to turn their lead into defeat.

The match was Postecoglou’s first game in charge of Al-Nasr in the Portuguese camp after taking over from Portuguese Jorge Jesus, who stepped down at the end of last season.

The Australian coach was keen to try a number of alternative and young players, given the absence of international stars following their national teams’ participation in the 2026 World Cup in America, Canada and Mexico.

“Al-Alami” will play the next friendly match with the Spanish “Merida”.He will face Portugal’s Estrella Amadora on July 28 and then on August 1, before ending the camp against Spain’s Almeria on the 4th of the same month.

Postecoglou’s Al-Nasr are looking to defend the Saudi League title they achieved under former Portuguese coach Jorge Jesus after a seven-year absence.

Al-Alami will also return to compete for the elite AFC Champions League title after missing out last season, where they made it to the second round and reached the final before losing to Japan’s Gamba Osaka.
