for now, Liverpool Supporters are left with more questions than answers.
Since taking over the club in October 2010, Fenway Sports Group, then known as New England Sports Ventures, has established itself as a steady and reliable parent.
The American ownership group has overseen sustained success on and off the pitch, with Liverpool Since 2019, they have won two Premier League titles, the Champions League, the FA Cup, the League Cup, the Super Cup and the Club World Cup.
Therefore, the prospects of new investors, and potentially new ideas and approaches inevitably raise questions, especially if they are entering the elite-level game for the first time.
Liverpool Supporters Neil Atkinson, CEO of The Anfield Wrap, told BBC Sport that “questions should be asked whenever someone is interested in paying money to be involved with a Premier League club”.
He said: “What’s in it for these very, very rich people, for whom LiverpoolIts annual turnover, not profit, which is rare for Premier League clubs, will barely make a dent?
“The ‘why’ won’t be one thing or the same across the board. Part-ownership in four or five sports around the world might be considered worth more than a stake for the Mittal family, for example. At least here you still retain the value of the asset.”
“However, as long as everyone continues to ask ‘why’ at such an expensive price point, we hope at some point to better understand the purpose.”
Almost four years after FSG explored the possibility of selling the 20-time English champions, the prospect of new investors raises questions about whether it could be part of a long-term strategy towards an eventual exit from Anfield.
