What happens when you try to cut a photon in half?



A photon is a small particle of light, and always, it cannot be divided. But so is the photon no small things, in the sense that they have no real place. In fact, it is something much longer.

So if a photon is about to focus on a perfect mirror and you move the mirror farther away, what happens? The answer, from three Norwegian scientists, it’s coming out (link to arxiv.org) turned out to be more difficult than I expected.

A distributed photon?

First let’s briefly discuss the distribution and integration of photons. If this were a common occurrence in our lives, then shining one type of light through a glass or shining it on a surface would cause a photon to split or combine.
