Nottingham attacked the NHS trust

The NHS trust which delivered Nottingham killer Valdo Caloocan is being investigated for corporate manslaughter.

Caloocane, who was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia before fatally attacking Barnaby Weber, Grace O’Malley-Cooman and Ian Cote in June 2023, was previously allocated by Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.

A public inquiry which concluded hearing evidence in May was told he would stand down in 2022 after failing to appear for an appointment. And the team “lost” him.

The investigation into the trust is being carried out by Northumbria Police.

Nottinghamshire Police has been criticized for its history of dealings with Caloocan and its response and handling of the investigation into the attack.

A spokesman for Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust said: “Northumbria Police, on behalf of Nottinghamshire Police, has launched an investigation into the care and treatment of Waldo Caloocan.

“We know how important an independent inquiry and police investigation is to affected families, survivors and our local communities.

“We are co-operating fully with Northumbria Police as we continue to work with the statutory inquiry into these matters, led by Her Honor Deborah Taylor, who will hear the final views from all relevant parties later this year.”

Nottinghamshire Healthcare was responsible for Caloocan care for two years before being released in September 2022.

He was classified under the Mental Health Act four times in that two-year period. The doctor warned that it will kill someone.

He pleaded guilty to one count of murder, one count of diminished responsibility and three counts of attempted murder following the attack.

Caloocan is currently serving an indefinite hospital order at a maximum security facility.
