The Rebel Wilson actress has been sued for defamation in her own film.

Rebel Wilson has been acquitted of defaming a young Australian actress, a Sydney court has heard.

Charlotte McInnes, who starred in Wilson’s film The Deb, sued the Bridesmaids and Pitch Perfect actress for defamation over Instagram posts in 2024 and 2025.

In the articles, Wilson accused MacInnes of raising her sexual harassment complaint against a film producer to boost her career – a claim MacInnes denies.

In court on Wednesday, Judge Elizabeth Rapper dismissed the case as not defamatory, saying McInnes had changed her story about the incident. The judge ordered McInnes to pay Wilson’s costs.

The case revolves around an incident in September 2023 when McInnes went swimming at Bondi Beach with Amanda Ghost, one of Wilson’s film producers.

Ghost had an allergic reaction to the cold water, prompting the couple to return to the manufacturer’s luxury apartment she had rented.

Ghost had a shower when McInnes ran her shower. The young actress was soon joined by Ghost in the bathtub to warm up. Both are wearing swimsuits.

In announcing her decision, the rapper spoke about the bathroom incident.

“It’s an understatement to say that the way they ended up in the bathroom was unusual,” she told the court.

The rapper also noted that McInnes failed to verify his posts or could have caused more damage.

“The process has taught me a lot,” Wilson posted on Instagram after the decision.

“It’s challenged me, but it’s reinforced what I’ve always believed in. I want to live my life by standing up for what’s right, creating work that brings joy to people.”

Wilson thanked her fans and said, “I’m grateful that this chapter has come to a close.” She also thanked the judge in her case and “the Australian legal system, which I have the utmost respect for”.

During the three-week trial earlier this year, Wilson testified that McInnes spoke to her the day after the shower incident and “Amanda asked me to shower and shower with her and it made me feel comfortable.”

Later, Wilson calls McInnes to ask her about the shower incident again because of her concerns about it.

After the call, Wilson sent Ghost a text that was shown to the court: “Charlotte says well, it’s not that she’s personally uncomfortable, it’s been a weird situation.”

McInnes’ attorneys previously said Wilson’s allegations were false. “Malicious Compounds”. And the court heard claims the Hollywood star ordered a defamation website to target Ghost, which Wilson denied.

Wilson’s lawyer argued that McInnes, who will graduate from acting school in Western Australia in 2021, was not harmed by the posts, pointing to her recent record deal.
