A week of many casualties in Gaza
Beyond Nuseirat’s funeral, the violence in Gaza last week also included several attacks on homes and families who fled their homes.

The escalation in Gaza coincides with a campaign to expand “verification on the ground” across the occupied West Bank. This past week, Israel’s defense minister approved 1.3 billion shekels ($426.3m) to establishing 34 new illegal settlements. On July 15, it approved an additional 1.075 billion shekels ($352.5m) for the construction of permanent roads, Wafa said, which will support many new communities and areas that reach remote parts of the West Bank. Smotrich called the decision “security and safety reform”, with the aim of establishing more than 100 villages and more than 160 agricultural and pastoral areas.
The money plan is what led to this week’s spending spree, which has continued to push for more land to be used for a massive construction campaign.

He died on July 18 of the wounds received by the army on July 11 – the seventh resident of al-Mughayyir who was killed since October 2023, including four children. Israeli activist Jonathan Pollack has linked the repeated killings there to a deliberate campaign to carve out a link between Shiloh and the Jordan Valley.
Similarly, the West Bank saw several towns closed behind military gates. Sinjilnorth of Ramallah, took the main part of the campaign. Deir Jarir, east of Ramallah, saw its worst attack on the night of July 19, when a large-scale military attack along with an attempted escape of about 70 sheep left two men, Ahmad Abu Makhou, 26, and Odeh Farakhna, 53, dead from gunshot wounds; Pollack said witnesses gave conflicting accounts of whether soldiers or civilians fired the shots.
Livestock raids accompanied by the military also took place this week, including the confiscation of more than 180 sheep from one family in Khirbet Emneizal and repeated attacks on livestock near Wadi al-Rakheem, so that it has become an expected life in Masafer Yatta, according to activist Osama Makhamreh.
