The English star chooses the Blues instead of the Gunners.
England star Morgan Rodgers started an early war with Arsenal fans after officially joining Chelsea from Aston Villa on Tuesday night.
Chelsea FC announced on its official website. Rodgers, 23, has signed a contract that will keep him at Stamford Bridge until 2033.He will join coach Xabi Alonso’s team before the new season.
Multiple English media say the Rodgers deal cost Chelsea coffers £117m (€138m), making it the second most expensive Premier League deal behind Alexander Isak’s £125m move from Newcastle to Liverpool last summer.
Arsenal were the most interested in Rodgers’ services and attempted to sign him in the current summer transfer window, before Chelsea stepped in and clinched the deal in their favour.
In his first comments since joining the Blues, Rodgers said: Via Chelsea FC’s official website“I’m very excited. For me, “Chelsea” is the biggest club in London. I’ve always admired it since I was a child.”
There are plenty of clashes between Arsenal and Chelsea fans around the biggest club in the English capital London, so some believed that Rodgers’ verdict could inflame many Gunners fans.
Rogers added: “I’m very excited about the project with the new manager, the players we have and where the club is going. That’s why I’m here and I can’t wait to get to work.”
It is noteworthy that Rodgers was part of the England team, which took third place in the 2026 World Cup, which ended last Sunday, with Spain winning the title.
