Ryanair broken window may have been caused by ‘foreign object’.

An incident on a Ryanair flight that saw a passenger partially suck from a plane window may have been caused by “foreign object damage” to the engine, the airline’s boss said.

Michael O’Leary, the first investigation into the July 10 incident between Greece and Germany, said: “It looks like there was a foreign object on the take-off engine in Thessaloniki, but we can’t say that for sure.”

He said the engine on the 18-year-old Boeing 737 aircraft had been fully serviced and overhauled in the past two years.

Passengers told local media that they heard “some kind of explosion” on the plane.

The aircraft operated under Ryanair Malta Air.

Proving that the damage was caused by an external factor could have an impact on the outcome of Ryanair’s or Boeing’s debt.

The US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is investigating. O’Leary said a draft report would be released within 28 days.
