How we were drawn to the cloud
“Connected services”—cloud-based and networked systems that allow a car to connect to external systems to provide software, data, and remote services to drivers and passengers—have been around since the 1990s, when GM introduced OnStar as an option. The early systems were mostly voice-based, but still relied on middle-end systems. Today’s versions, which are data-driven and cloud-based, use high-speed air links to allow better viewing.
