Khan previously heard at HMP Wandsworth, Snaresbrook Crown Court, where he is in custody with Califf.

In the hours and days after his escape, Khalif used phones borrowed from the public to call Khan several times, the court heard.

Khan’s name was found to be written in a red notebook carried by the Caliph.

It contained his name, an illegal prison phone number, his personal mobile number and a Snapchat account, photos shown to the court showed.

During the trial, prosecutors said Khalif was carrying around £200 in £20 notes, which he said was taken from the £400 withdrawn by Chowdhury at a cash machine in Richmond, south-west London, on the day of his escape.

Shortly after Khalif was released from prison, at around 20:41 BST, Khan texted his then-girlfriend Chowdhury’s bank details and told her to “put £120 in this ac… please thank u baby”.

After the £120 arrived in Chowdhury’s Barclays account at 9.55pm, he and Khalif met at a “meeting which was instrumental in setting up Khan”, the court heard.

He then spent £400 on Khalifa, prosecutors said.

On Tuesday, the jury deliberated for more than four hours before finding Khan guilty, while Chaudhuri was cleared.

Chowdhury’s defense lawyer told jurors he did not know he was in contact with the escaped prisoner, describing Khalif as a spy who “knew deception”.

James Hasslacher said Chowdhury was of “good character”, had no previous convictions and had a well-paid job at the Telegraph newspaper.

Judge Murray Shanks said the jury’s findings suggested Chowdhury “didn’t know what the hell was going on”, adding: “It’s a reasonable verdict, I have to admit.”

Khan will be sentenced on September 4 and remanded in custody.
