After leading Spain to the 2026 World Cup title, attention has turned to Rodri’s future in the summer transfer window in light of his desire to take on a new challenge and return to the Spanish league.

Rodri, 30, is entering the final season of his contract with Manchester City, which leaves the English club with two options. Sell him this summer for a financial gain, or take the risk of leaving for free at the end of his contract.
Rodri’s desire to return to the Spanish league comes after an exceptional summer in which he led Spain to the 2026 World Cup title. The midfielder performed at remarkable levels throughout the tournament, winning the Ballon d’Or for the best player of the World Cup. He also set a record with 648 successful passes, confirming his pivotal role in leading La Roja to the title.
Alvarez noted that “Manchester City” tried many times to convince the player to extend the contract, but all offers of extension were rejected.
Rodri had put off deciding his future until after the World Cup before opting to wait out a move to Real Madrid without entering into any further negotiations.
Despite Rodri’s clear desire to wear a Real Madrid shirt, the Royals’ position is still undecided.
He explained that some Real Madrid officials believe that signing the Spanish midfielder would be a great addition to the team, but the management has not made a final decision on whether to make a formal offer due to the differing opinions of the club.
