The Tate brothers appeared in US federal court to begin extradition proceedings

Controversial influencer Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan have appeared in federal court in Miami, marking the start of extradition proceedings to the UK on new charges including rape and sex trafficking.

Speaking outside the courtroom after the hearing, the brothers’ lawyer said they will fight extradition.

The Tats have been held in a Florida jail since their arrest on Saturday after the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), which investigates criminal cases in England and Wales, announced 38 new charges against them.

In the year The Tate brothers, who arrived in Florida after fleeing Romania in 2025 to face similar charges, have repeatedly denied wrongdoing.

Appearing in court on Monday, the pair wore light brown prison uniforms and were handcuffed at the waist and ankles.

When asked if they understood their right to speak, they answered in unison, “Yes, Your Honor.”

The brothers’ attorney, Joe McBride, told reporters after the brief hearing that their clients were innocent.

“They have never done anything wrong. They should not be extradited for a crime they did not commit.” McBride said.

“It’s dirty. It’s sewing,” he added.

He compared the charges against the men to legal proceedings against US President Donald Trump as a “witch hunt” and described the extradition attempt as “political assassination”.

Asked how long McBride’s extradition process would take, he anticipated the hearing. It will be “around 60 days”.

The judge rescheduled the brother’s next court hearing for July 27, AP News reported.

Any final decision on extradition must ultimately be made by the Trump administration.

The most recent allegations against the men allegedly occurred between July 2010 and August 2017.
