Key ways Andy Burnham left as Prime Minister

In his first speech at Downing Street, Burnham announced that he would “end rough sleeping in our country”.

This was quickly followed by a No 10 press release pledging an extra £340m for the task over the next five years.

He also promised to put “the essentials of life under public control” to build a new 10-year plan for Britain – to be announced later this year.

But people also “need breathing space now”, arguing that announcements about coping with the cost of living would start on Tuesday.

Other changes he has promised include overhauling the education system to help young people into work, building more council houses and keeping UK spending and debt rules in place and honoring commitments to support defence.
