The English legend died after a battle with cancer

He died English football legend Kevin KeeganAt the age of 75, after a short struggle with the disease.

The British “Daily Mail” newspaper reports.The England legend has been diagnosed with stage four stomach cancer after being admitted to hospital with abdominal problems.

Keegan made his mark at Liverpool during a successful football career, earning 63 caps for England and later managing Fulham and Manchester City.

The late manager led Newcastle United to promotion to the Premier League in the first of his two spells in charge at St James’ Park and he came very close to winning the league title before Manchester United took it away from him.

The family of the late star issued an official statement saying: “It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Kevin Keegan at the age of 75.”

“The former England player and manager was battling cancer and was surrounded by his wife and daughters in his final moments.”

The announcement continues. “Two-time Ballon d’Or winner Kevin was a much-loved husband, father and grandfather. The family would like to thank Kevin’s wonderful medical team for their support.”

The family concluded its statement by saying: “This is a very difficult and difficult time for everyone and they ask that they be given adequate space and privacy.”

A previous statement issued by the family last January stated that Keegan had been hospitalized for persistent abdominal symptoms.

“These medical tests and investigations have revealed that he has been diagnosed with cancer, for which Kevin will undergo treatment.”

Keegan announced in public statements that she made last May, during her first appearance since her cancer diagnosis, that she was responding well to treatment, receiving assurances that said:

Speaking about the attending physician, Keegan said: “He was a Liverpool fan so I went to meet him and I knew very well that I would never walk alone, if you know what I mean.”

The late star went on to an illustrious career which he began at Scunthorpe before moving to Reds stronghold Anfield, where he won the English First Division title three times, the European Cup once and the European Union Cup twice.

In 1977, Keegan moved to Hamburg, Germany, where he won the European Player of the Year award for two consecutive years in 1978 and 1979, won the German Bundesliga title and reached the final of the European Cup in 1980.

Keegan took over as England manager in 1999, succeeding coach Glenn Hoddle, but he resigned in 2000 after a disappointing European Cup of Nations campaign and defeat to Germany in the last game at the old Wembley Stadium.

The English manager later led both Fulham and Manchester City to promotion to the English Premier League.
