As The Hundred returns for 2026 – live on Sky Sports from Tuesday 21 July to Sunday 16 August – we look at what has changed for the ECB’s 100-ball competition…
New team trophy
An innovation this year is that the combined men’s and women’s trophies will be awarded to the best performing hundred teams in both competitions, in addition to the individual men’s and women’s titles awarded to tournament winners.
A franchise’s men’s and women’s combined score is added to each match worth four points for a win – group stage, eliminator or final.
The individual men’s and women’s titles will still be awarded around the combined silver medal
There are four bonus points for the men’s and women’s teams at the top of the league table, skipping the eliminators and going straight to the final of the competition.
If two franchises finish level on points at the end of the tournament, the team with a squad that wins the final wins. If both franchises win a final – or neither – then the majority of finalists and, if necessary, the combined net run-rate will determine a winner.
New owner and team name
All eight parties now have foreign investors, for which there are agreements Ambani family Reliance Industries Limited MI London – formerly the Oval Invincibles – and co-owner of Chelsea to secure a 49 per cent stake Kane International by Todd Boehly To acquire the same stake in Trent Rocket, which is completed by the end of 2025.
Deals for six other teams were previously sealed but this is the first season where the new investors can really stamp their authority.

Real Madrid and England midfielder Jude Bellingham announced his investment in Birmingham Phoenix earlier this year.
England footballer Jude Bellingham It now has a 1.2 per cent stake in Birmingham Phoenix and will be involved in increasing participation in community cricket.
Knighthead Capital Management – who owns former club Birmingham City in Bellingham and has NFL legend Tom Brady as a minority shareholder – owns 48.4 percent.
MI London is one of four Indian Premier League-affiliated investment teams, the Ambani family also owns five-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians.
Fully owned by Sunrisers Leeds – formerly Northern Superchargers Sun Group which owns Sunrisers Hyderabad AndPSG Group – In charge of Lucknow Super Giants – Owns 70 per cent stake in Manchester Super Giants, formerly The Originals.

Plus, GMR Group Southern Braves has a 49 percent stake, adding to a portfolio that includes IPL’s Delhi Capitals and Hampshire.
Elsewhere, based in America Tech Titans Lords-based London Spirits has a 49 percent stake, while the Indian-American businessman Sanjay GovalWelsh Fire, which owns Major League Cricket team Washington Freedom, has a 50 percent stake.
New kits
Because of this heavy foreign investment, the kits have changed, with IPL-backed clubs now playing in the same colors as their Indian counterparts.
MI London performed in green under their Oval Invincibles moniker but will now wear blue with gold trim like Mumbai Indians, while Sunrisers Leeds will switch from purple to orange to match Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Here are the new threads that players will be playing in 2026
Southern Braves’ green get-up has been ditched as they switch to blue and red, same as Delhi Capitals, and Manchester Super Giants swap Lucknow Super Giants from black and gray to red and blue stripes.
Birmingham Phoenix will don a black strip this term – they previously switched to orange and yellow – London Spirit remain in blue but now have an MCC ‘egg and bacon’ yellow and red stripe under their jersey.
The Welsh Fire are red and the Trent Rockets are still yellow and orange.
new money
The new owners pumped more than £500m into The Hundred when they bought all or part of their club but the money continued to be dispersed in the tournament’s first auction earlier this year.
Sussex all-rounder James Coles – recently part of England’s white-ball squad against India – was bought by London Spirit for £390k in the men’s competition, with Welsh fire Jordan Cox paid £200k after his player-of-the-tournament performance for the Oval Invincibles, when they were in 2025.
England all-rounder Dani Gibson has been signed by Sunrisers Leeds for £190,000 in the first hundred auction.
The women’s auction was notable for England all-rounder Danny Gibson, as Sunrisers Leeds came calling and legends of the game Beth Mooney (Australia) and Sophie Devine (New Zealand) earned £210k paydays from Trent Rockets and Welsh Fire respectively.
Also, to further emphasize how The Hundred can now change a player’s life, 18-year-old England spinner Tilly Curtin-Coleman went to the Southern Braves for £105k. Being a part of this competition is a very lucrative gig for some.
