Spain eliminated Argentina lifting the World Cup trophy and marked a new era in international football after substitute Ferran Torres scored a clinical goal to give his team a 1-0 win in the 106th minute at the New York New Jersey Stadium.
La Roja finally broke the deadlock after dominating Argentina for the majority of the game in front of 80,000 fans on Sunday.

Spanish midfielder Rodri took home the Ballon d’Or award, given to the tournament’s best player. Although he didn’t record a single goal or assist in Spain’s eight games, he completed more passes, ran more distances and had more possessions than any other player in this year’s competition.
He also played a big role in reducing Messi’s touch during Spain’s 1-0 win.
Rodri replaced Messi in this win, while the Argentine captain settled for the Silver Ball and Mbappe took the Bronze.
Golden Glove Award: Unai Simon – Spain
Simon finished with seven clean sheets, two more than the previous record for one World Cup.
The 29-year-old’s nine World Cup caps are one of 10 records shared by France veteran Fabien Barthez and England veteran Peter Shilton.
Best Young Player Award: Pau Cubarsi – Spain
The Spaniard’s future looked bright after he performed well in all competitions, even in Sunday’s World Cup final.
He has been keen to surround young players to watch and deliver when it matters most, even beyond Spanish post boy Lamine Yamal.
In a special interview With Al Jazeera at the end of the season, football commentator Tobin Heath said that Cubarsi is a “remarkable name” that has become well known among young players (accurate review).
“Being so young, playing so many minutes and doing so well with this Spanish defense, it shows the amazing way that Spain can connect with the mind and establish the type of football they want to play.”
FIFA Fair Play Award: Netherlands
The Netherlands are the eighth team to receive the award after drawing only three yellow cards in the tournament.
The Dutch entered the World Cup as favorites in Group F, but their wait to lift the World Cup trophy was delayed by Morocco defeating Oranje 3-2 on penalties to send them into the Round of 32.
