Chelsea look like a broken club, says Jamie Carragher after the Blues’ sixth-straight Premier League defeat. football news

Chelsea look like a broken club, according to Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher.

A heavily rotated Nottingham Forest side battling Premier League relegation, the Blues were booed by their own supporters at Stamford Bridge after a sixth-leg defeat at Chelsea.

The 3-1 result was a shock considering Forest boss Vitor Pereira made eight changes to his line-up ahead of Thursday’s Europa League semi-final second leg with Aston Villa.

But Chelsea, whose FA Cup semi-final win at Wembley last time out saw Liam Rosenier risk his job, trailed after 97 seconds, two down after 15 minutes and a third just seven minutes from half-time. Joao Pedro’s stoppage-time overhead kick was nothing more than a consolation.

Chelsea, managed by inexperienced interim boss Callum McFarlane, are ninth in the Premier League, 10 points adrift of fifth-placed Villa in the Champions League final and in serious doubt of securing any European football safety next season.

“It’s shocking and it comes from the top,” Carragher said.

“There were five or six really good players on the pitch today and they were beaten by Nottingham Forest’s B team.

“Less than 12 months ago, they were taking PSG to the cleaners.

“There is no connection between players and staff, players and fans.

“In some ways, it’s a good thing because it tells you that football is not just about spending money, buying players and this revolving door.

“It’s about coming together and there’s nothing there. They look like a broken football club now.”
