Belgian Grand Prix results: Kim Antonelli wins to extend his title lead after George Russell crashed on the first lap.

Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli ended a comfortable championship lead that had been eroded over the past three races with victory at the Belgian Grand Prix as team-mate George Russell crashed out.

The Italian battled through a virtual safety-car delay to catch and pass Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc for his sixth win in 10 races this season.

Russell, on the other hand, crashed out in the opening lap with Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton and dropped to third in the standings, 50 points behind Antonelli.

Hamilton finished second in the championship, three points ahead of Russell in fourth.

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen took the final podium.

Unsurprisingly, the top stories of the tournament were as follows.

  • More bad luck for Russell as his results in recent races were lost within seconds of the start

  • The virtual safety car that gave Leclerc an unexpected shot at a second consecutive victory

  • After a penalty, VSC Lando Norris, who was looking to compete in the podium, touched him.
