Why is Perez considering signing Mourinho in 2026 after watching ‘Barcelona flick’?
Real Madrid are planning next season with four rounds left in the Spanish league and are still looking for a new manager to replace Alvaro Arbeloa.
Real Madrid are on the verge of entering a new zero season, having lost the Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup in addition to a quarter-final exit from the Champions League, while Barcelona are close to winning the La Liga title.
A number of managers are being touted to take charge of Real Madrid next season, with current Benfica manager Jose Mourinho of Portugal leading the charge, whose stock has risen significantly, according to multiple media reports.
The file for a new Real Madrid coach was discussed on Radio Cadena Ser’s El Bar program, presented by Siki Rodríguez, where former Real Madrid scout Manolo Romero raised a name that had not previously been mentioned as a possible candidate.
“We admire Andoni Iraola, who has not been in the media spotlight and Real Madrid often sign unknown players. Iraola will not renew his contract with Bournemouth and he has had excellent seasons in England.”
However, this name did not convince both Siki Rodríguez and journalist Bruno Alemany, and the first asked: “If Florentino Perez doesn’t believe in Xabi Alonso…will he believe in Irola?”

Rodriguez added: “I see that Florentino Perez is more suited to a different type of coach. Lopetegui, Benitez, Xabi Alonso… Florentino prefers other styles.”
Journalist Luis Flicker, who was also a guest on the show, went further, claiming that if Jose Mourinho does indeed join Real Madrid, it would be another win for Barcelona, currently coached by Hansi Flick.
“If Real Madrid signs Mourinho, it will be another victory for Barcelona-Flick.” It is another result of their dominance in the local arena and their superiority over them. Imagine if in 2026, seeing the advantage of “Barcelona”-Flick, you thought of returning to Mourinho.”
Bruno Allemani does not appear to be entirely convinced by Mourinho’s appointment as Santiago Bernabeu boss, having not won a league title since 2015, for example, despite spells in England, Italy and Turkey.
“It is clear that Mourinho made a mistake in his choice of projects and he may repeat the same mistake by moving to Real Madrid.”
It is noteworthy that Mourinho previously coached Real Madrid in 2010-2013 and managed to win the La Liga title, the Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup.
