A few days before the trial began, Elon Musk tried to settle his lawsuit, which claims that under the leadership of Sam Altman, OpenAI abandoned its mission to become a non-profit that develops AI for the benefit of society.
According to Sunday court reservation from OpenAI, Musk sent a message to OpenAI President Greg Brockman two days before the trial to “see interest” in a possible settlement. Brockman quickly responded, telling “both sides” to drop their claims. But Musk refused, and appeared to threaten the court to allow Brockman to testify about the message as evidence that would reveal Musk’s true intentions in taking the case.
“By the end of this week, you and Sam will be the most hated men in America,” Musk responded to Brockman’s claim that all claims would be removed. “If you insist, it will be so.”
OpenAI apparently did not approve of the establishment, as the trial began last week with Musk as the first witness. On the stand, Musk stumbled several timesperhaps undermining his case by admitting, out of temper, denying claims that AI risks are imminent, and admitting his own ignorance when it comes to AI security at his company, xAI.
If he accepts, the alleged threat could be his biggest stumbling block, as Brockman – who Musk also wants from OpenAI – will be allowed to testify about the message when he takes the stand, possibly today and tomorrow.
In general, communication in the proposed environment is not allowed, but much to Musk’s dismay, OpenAI reported the incident at this time. Musk’s failed bid to sell off his Twitter purchase.
In the case of 2022, Musk’s legal team called for a “renegotiation” of the purchase price of Twitter “so that the case is dismissed,” and threatened that “it will be a World War until the end of time” for the leaders of Twitter and “successors,” if Musk was forced to buy Twitter at a price. Musk’s price was based on 420 jokes. In that exchange, Musk also tried to make Twitter executives uncomfortable by reminding them that “once they have this thing, they’ll have access to all of the company’s records and they can look at everybody’s emails and dig up whatever they want to dig up.”
