American boxer Hannah Rapp, 26, died after being hit by a car while cycling

US boxer Hannah Rapp died after being hit by a car while cycling in Texas on Saturday.

According to the Brazos County Sheriff’s Office, 26-year-old Rapp was passing a vehicle that stopped suddenly then rolled into him.

The driver was arrested and charged with murder.

Rapp challenged for the WBC Women’s Featherweight Championship in June, losing to Tiara Brown in Orlando, leaving her with an 8-1-1 record.

WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman said in a statement: “He was an exceptional boxer, but above all, an invaluable member of our boxing family.”

Brown called Rapp “the best dance partner I’ve ever had as a professional” and said Rapp asked for his autograph in the lead-up to the fight.

“It filled my heart as we got ready for battle, yet he still wanted my autograph,” Brown said. “We had a great fight. It’s an honor to share the ring with him.”

Rap from Indiana competed in athletics before transitioning to boxing. He turned professional in 2024, maintaining a full-time job as a fire and life safety inspector.

Her promoter, Most Valuable Promotions, said in a statement: “Hannah left a lasting impression on everyone who had the opportunity to meet her.

“He was a gifted athlete, a valued member of the boxing community and someone who was deeply respected by those around him.

“We are grateful to have shared a part of his journey and will honor his memory in the weeks ahead.”
