Officially, Mbappe is the best scorer of the World Cup of all time, and Messi is the runner-up.

France star Kylian Mbappe scored a brace against England to decide the third-place finisher at the 2026 World Cup.

After trailing 0-4 in the first half, Mbappe reduced the deficit by scoring the Roosters’ first goal in the 48th minute.

Bradley Barcola scored the second goal before Mbappe returned to score his second personal goal and third for the Roosters in the 66th minute.

Kylian Mbappe took his tally to 10 goals to top the 2026 World Cup goalscoring charts, two goals ahead of his nearest rival Lionel Messi.

Stats Foot reports that Mbappe became the first player to score 10 goals in a single World Cup match since German legend Gerd Muller, who scored as many goals in the 1970 World Cup.

He continued. “Mbappe became the all-time top scorer at the World Cup with 22 goals, surpassing Lionel Messi’s record of 21 goals.

He explained. “This achievement also takes us back to 1970, the last time a French player topped the tournament’s top scorer list, when Just Fontaine scored 13 goals.”

Stats Foot continued. “Mbappe scored 16 goals for France this season, setting a new record as the most goalscorer for France in a single season, overtaking Just Fontaine who scored 14 goals in 1957-58.”
