Cake free request from voice ‘abysmal’ says bakery

The owner of an independent bakery has said it was a “kick in the teeth” for The Voice UK to offer free cakes to guests and judges of the ITV show.

Rich Myers, 37, of Manchester flagship store Get Baked, described the request as a “total disgrace” and said big companies should not be asking small businesses to supply products in return for “exposure”.

Myers shared the email on Instagram, saying ITV was unable to pay him but said the feed would be viewed by “highly influential” coaches, presenters and contestants.

Lifted Entertainment, which works for ITV’s The Voice UK, apologized and said “steps have been taken to ensure that such a request does not happen again”.

In the email, The Voice staff asked if Get Baked, a Leeds-based bakery, could supply products to talent dressing rooms and green rooms during filming at no charge.

ITV said it “cannot offer any monetary or other compensation”.

At first, Myers thought it was a “wind up” but then realized it was “absolutely true.”

“ITV and Lifted Entertainment, you are an absolute disgrace,” he wrote on Instagram.

“Honestly, how did we get here?

“Stop whatever this is because I want out.
