Morgan Rodgers: Chelsea agree £117m deal for Aston Villa midfielder

Chelsea England midfielder agrees club record £117m deal to sign Morgan Rodgers Aston Villa.

The 23-year-old will sign a six-year deal at Stamford Bridge, with an option for a further year.

Rodgers will have a medical on Monday after returning from international duty with England at the 2026 World Cup.

The deal would set a new transfer record for an English player, surpassing the £116m fee Manchester City agree with Nottingham Forest For another Three Lions midfielder in Elliott Anderson earlier this summer.

Rodgers is the most expensive signing ChelseaIts history, in 2023, spent £107 million on Argentine midfielder Enzo Fernandez.

The move comes as new Chelsea Manager Xabi Alonso has formed his squad ahead of the new Premier League season.

Rogers, who was previously on its books Manchester CityJoined Villa from Championship side Middlesbrough on 1 February 2024.

He scored 21 goals in 85 league appearances for Unai Emery’s men and was part of the Europa League winning side last season.

Rodgers made 21 senior England appearances at this summer’s World Cup, scoring once and making six appearances.
