The conflict has been intensifying since US President Donald Trump announced 10 days ago that the peace deal with Iran was over.

A seventh night in a row US military strikes on targets across Iran have left 10,000 people without water after a desalination plant was hit, as Iran retaliated by launching another wave of drones and missiles at US allies in the Gulf.

Hamzeh Pour, director of the Hormozgan Water and Wastewater Company, was told by the Tasnim newspaper on Saturday that the sea water pumping station and the electrical transformer at the Bunji desalination plant in Jask in the south of Iran “were completely destroyed”, depriving 20 villages of water.

Iran’s retaliation also targeted civilian infrastructure, a war crime under international humanitarian law.

Earlier on Saturday, Kuwait announced the closure of its airport and said two energy and water plants were affected by Iranian attacks. Several Kuwaiti firefighters have been injured responding to fires sparked by the protests, the country’s fire brigade said.

Air raid sirens were also heard repeatedly in Bahrain, where authorities urged people to take shelter.

In Jordan, authorities said they seized 10 Iranian missiles.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) says its navy has targeted a US military oil rig at Kuwait’s Al-Ahmadi port and a US military aircraft assembly facility at Sheikh Isa Air Base in Bahrain. The IRGC also said it had attacked a US base in Azraq in Jordan, saying it had destroyed two American warplanes.

The attack on Iran came after the U.S. military’s Central Command, or CENTCOM, announced it had carried out additional strikes overnight targeting “observation sites, weapons, underground storage facilities, and naval capabilities” in Iran.

US President Donald Trump announced at the NATO meeting in Ankara 10 days ago that the memorandum of understanding signed between Washington and Tehran in June. was “over” following an Iranian attack on a submarine near the Strait of Hormuz. He reinstated the naval blockade of Iranian ports and lifted sanctions on Iranian oil exports.

Iran insists that under the peace agreement reached with the US, it has the right to conduct maritime navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and dictate the routes that ships should take when passing through the narrow strait – an important channel for the transfer of energy to the world.

Trump says the route should be open to the public – but the US Navy is now blocking Iranian ships.

Trump is rushing to lower oil and gas prices ahead of the crucial November midterm elections. But repeated threats and attacks on Iran have so far not made Tehran surrender or return to negotiations.

The attacks on the US have gotten bigger and bigger over the past week. Tehran has accused Washington of targeting civilian infrastructure and carrying out military attacks.

Videos and photos published by Iranian media show severely damaged bridges and railways in the south of the country. Iranian officials have warned that the country will respond in kind by striking civil engineering throughout the Gulf region, as they have done now in their invasion of Kuwait.
