Smith’s husband Mike has been by her side through her recovery, watching her train in Loughborough.
“Psychologically, it’s difficult, if not difficult at times (to return to competition). The athletic resiliency that he’s shown is what he’s built a career on,” he said.
“I’m very proud of the journey he’s made over the last 12 months. Obviously we wanted a different result, twice, but I couldn’t be prouder.”
Woodison said he was a “loud” spectator, adding: “I’m usually pretty close to the track and my voice almost goes away, cheering him on, but I’ll probably do the same again.”
After he almost quit the sport after the 2024 Paralympics in Paris, this could be Smith’s last major event.
“I feel very differently about it. I’m going to enjoy it, have fun and not put pressure on myself,” added Smith, who trains at Loughborough University’s British Athletics base.
“My family will be there to support me and I have some faith.”
