World Cup 2026: Wayne Rooney thinks England should stick with Thomas Tuchel

Wayne Rooney thinks the Football Association should replace Pep Guardiola with Thomas Tuchel as England manager unless a transfer is successful.

Tuchel has it. He kept the support of the FA Later England lost 2-1 to Argentina. in Wednesday’s World Cup semi-finals.

Rooney has backed Tuchel to stay on as England manager after the World Cup heartbreak, but the FA thinks he should get former Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola if he is available.

Rooney said: “Unless you bring Pep Guardiola, I don’t see anyone else at the minute. If Pep Guardiola was there, you’d probably go and bring him.” The Wayne Rooney Show.

I think he’s a top level manager and what top managers do is learn from his mistakes and get better and better.

“If we sack him, which managers will we bring in? And I don’t think there is anyone as good as Thomas Tuchel except Guardiola.”

But the biggest thing for me is that he has no experience in the World Cup. We had the same thing with Fabio Capello.

“The World Cup is different and you have to feel that environment and now he felt it.”

Tuchel A Two-year contract extension In February, he was appointed on an 18-month mission to win the World Cup in January 2025.

Rooney had his thoughts on the decision to give Tuchel a new contract: “I think the FA have told us that Thomas Tuchel is going to win the World Cup and take us to the next level.”

“It’s a bit strange if the priority is to win the World Cup, but before you go to the World Cup you get a two-year contract, which is a bit strange.”
