Phishing victim gets paid for Tinder, TikTok and Instagram profiles

A 19-year-old woman whose images were used to create fake Tinder, Tik Tok and Instagram profiles to trick men into believing she was their girlfriend is to pay damages.

Sasha-Jay Davies from Aberdare Her identity has been stolen Elha Mai Weston, who proposed to start romantic conversations on social media when he was a teenager.

Weston, who has amassed more than 100,000 followers, is afraid to leave her home because Davis is being approached by people she thinks are related to her.

She apologized and agreed to pay the Davies student £10,000 compensation, admitting the four-year campaign.

Weston engaged in a “sustained campaign of online impersonation” known as catphing, the court was told.

Earlier this year, Davies told BBC Wales: “I used to go out a lot but now I never go out because I’m scared of what people are going to do next.”

“It’s terrifying to be faced with something you didn’t do and to realize that someone is using your face to deceive others,” she says.

Images were posted on Tinder, Hinge, Snapchat, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and SoundCloud and used to trick thousands of people on social media and dating apps.
