Nations Championship: Wales opt for midfield bulk to face South Africa

Tandy has changed its centers and also rotated its fly-half, with Dan Edwards returning after Sam Costello had a crack at Argentina.

Ospreys’ Edwards has started 10 of the 12 internationals played this season, impressing until Scarlets’ Costello suffered an injury against Scotland and then faces the Pumas.

Last week’s starters dropped out on Matchday 23 and Kendra Hawkins will cover at Kings Park.

“I’m a bit sensitive to the way the 10s are treated because I’ve played there so much of my career,” Anscombe said.

“One thing they need to be careful of is cuts and changes. With 10, no matter how they play, there are times when you have to give them three or four games in a row.

“A 10’s job is not just about effort and attitude, but a lot about decision-making and being right about it.

“It’s really hard to get a feel for it when you’re cutting and changing. You need time in the saddle to constantly make these decisions down the line.”

Wales finish their season on 10-12-13 with Edwards, Thomas and Llewelyn and Tandy have a break until the selection headache returns in November.
