Iran condemns ‘cruelty’ in US near children’s cancer hospital | US-Israel War on Iran News

Iran has accused the United States of committing a “heinous crime” by striking a children’s cancer hospital and comparing what it is doing to. Israel’s goal medical facilities in Gaza.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said in a statement on Thursday that the US had acted “brutally” and 211 patients “undergoing chemotherapy” were evacuated from the Shahid Baghaei Specialized Hospital in the southwestern city of Ahvaz.

A doctor at the hospital told reporters that the explosion was so “strong” and “close” that he thought the hospital had been hit.

“This barbaric attack, reminiscent of Israel’s attacks on hospitals, caused great suffering and anxiety to hospitalized children, forcing them to evacuate,” Baghaei said.

“This is a crime of terror against the most innocent people – children who are bravely fighting for their lives.”

Dr Majid Bou’azar, the hospital’s director, told Al Jazeera that 211 patients would be “forced to move” because of the strike.

“These are special patients, including cancer patients, who have been hospitalized here… Some of the patients (were) on ventilators,” a staff member told Al Jazeera. “Some people had babies in their arms, some had IVs in their arms, and some were in wheelchairs.”

Earlier, the head of the hospital, Reza Bazar, said that the US attack on the city of Ahvaz has made it possible for the hospital to function, the Fars news agency reported.

The attacks have raised concerns that the war could end and will delay talks to end the conflict, which began nearly five months ago.

‘Bitter memory’ of Minab’s attack

The US did not say anything about the strike, but it launched another one wave of attack in Iran on Thursday. Tehran, meanwhile, has said it is targeting US military bases in Jordan and Kuwait, while Gulf leaders are on alert for fears the conflict could escalate.

President Donald Trump has threatened to strike Iran’s electricity grids and bridges next week if Tehran does not return to talks. Iran has warned it will retaliate by targeting civilian weapons in neighboring Gulf states.

Deliberate attacks on civilian areas are illegal under international law and are often considered a war crime.

Iran’s Mr. Baghaei criticized what Iran calls a dualism, where countries in the Global South are expected to follow international law during wartime, while those in the Global North publicly threaten to engage in terrorist acts during wartime.

“Those who constantly preach about human rights, but deliberately ignore what they want in hospitals and clinics, have lost all faith,” he said.

His comments were confirmed by Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, who accused Washington of “war crimes” in a tweet on Thursday. Araghchi condemned the US attacks on civilian security “without a doubt as a serious violation of the United Nations Charter and the fundamental principles of international law”.

Tehran has also been accused of violating the laws of war. Earlier, Saudi Arabia described Iran’s actions in Bahrain, Jordan and Kuwait as “treasonous”. Iran insists it has only targeted US weapons. However, evidence has emerged that Iran’s protests have also damaged infrastructure in the Gulf countries.

Reports from Tehran, Al Jazeera’s Resul Serdar said that Iranian officials had reported that 17 hospitals had been severely damaged in the current war and the previous conflict in June last year.

“This hospital (in Ahvaz) was made for children with cancer, so the attack near this hospital is reminding the Iranian people of the painful memory of the Minab primary school,” he said, referring to school south of Iran the US and Israel bombed on the first day of the war, killing at least 168 children.

Evidence points to the US behind the strike, and Democratic senators are pressing the Trump administration to release the results of the investigation within the next week.

Amnesty International has confirmed that Washington was responsible for, saying, “a shameful failure of intelligence” and, worse, “reckless and reckless attacks”.
