Now after withdrawal at the beginning Ahead of the final match of the campaign against the Springboks in the Nations Championship in Durban on Saturday, Rees-Zammit admitted he had expected a bit more of himself over the past 12 months.

“This season has been very long and I’ve played multiple positions,” said Rees-Zammit.

“I’ve never been able to hit the ground running and run like I used to, but I’ve learned a lot.

“Hopefully I can give it my all for this final, then next year is the year I’ll try and make the biggest impact.”

Rees-Zammit says he has no regrets about his rugby return.

“I thoroughly enjoyed it,” he said. “It took a while to find my feet again, but I’ve been playing the game since I was seven.

“I loved being back in this environment, playing Test games against tough opposition in the Welsh squad.

“I was a bit out of the game so it took time, but I feel confident and ready to finish the season strongly.”
