Wayne Broadhurst’s killer is also guilty of attempted murder.

In the year Safi, an Afghan refugee who arrived in the UK on a lorry in 2020, became Farooq’s host in early August 2025 in an annexe flat in Midhurst Gardens.

At around 16:45 GMT on 27 October, Farooq opened the annex door and found Safi armed with a large kitchen knife, which he then stabbed.

After attacking the teenager and Farooq, a neighboring family confronted Safi in the street, who was described by one witness as “wandering around covered in blood” with “stab wounds to his back and chest area”.

The court heard he was “unable to breathe properly” as a result of his injuries.

It was then that Broadhurst, who worked as a street sweeper, came out of the lane with his dog.

A pathologist confirmed he had died “immediately” after suffering 14 stab wounds to his neck, chest, back and side.

Safi was arrested minutes later by the police.

The court heard Safi, who worked as an Uber driver, was consumed by “depressive psychosis” until he carried out the attack.

In the days before the stabbing, Safi had a mental health assessment at Hillingdon Hospital because he was “hearing voices” and sought help at Hayes Police Station.
