Roblox is about to let people create games with AI within its mobile app, which could make the platform with questionable features even more crowded. The company has embraced AI with open arms, including the visualization of aspirations adopt world class AI models similar to Google’s Project Genieand AI is the basis of the model which developers can use to create 3D game tools, and AI chatbot assistants can help developers when building a game. The tools announced today will make using AI in the development of Roblox games easier, even if the company is starting small at first.
The new feature is called Build, which “brings mobile AI creation to Roblox, allowing anyone to turn words into original games within the Roblox mobile app,” according to the blog post. Build handles “game mechanics, environments, characters, visuals, sounds, and more,” and is powered by both Roblox’s AI and open source models.
Roblox is pitching Build as something that allows for “quick exploration and brainstorming,” but it’s easy to imagine that people could start releasing games thanks to the proliferation of AI tools that would lower the barrier to entry. However, the company says that games created by Build will be selected in the same way way to save like other Roblox activities, so games that have not been played consciously will not be taken over by Roblox activities.
“Our discovery system is designed to feature long-lasting games, which don’t involve AI degradation,” says Roblox. “Games on the home page don’t change: If no one plays them, no one will find them.”
Initially, Build will be available from July 28th in alpha to all people in New Zealand who are at least nine years old and have verified their age. The published games will be played worldwide by users 16 years of age or older. The “base-level” version of the Build will be available at no cost, although there will be “additional charges for power users.” Roblox doesn’t have specifics to share about the payment right now, and the company will share more information “as we continue to expand to more regions in the coming months,” spokeswoman Juliet Chaitin-Lefcourt said. Seaside.
Roblox is also working on new AI assistants to support developers that will be available in Build and Studio, including a play assistant, an analytics assistant, and an assistant that can run tests to help with engagement, retention, and monetization. These will be posted in the coming months.
