Hayes, the man who appeared in court after a woman was killed while sleeping with her daughter

A young mother was stabbed to death as she slept in bed with her husband and three-month-old baby after breaking into a house, a court heard.

Daniel Sean James, 46, is accused of attacking Kirandeep Kaur, 24, at her home on Uxbridge Road in Hayes, west London, on Sunday morning.

He then jumped out of a window and allegedly broke both ankles before being arrested by police nearby, the Old Bailey was told.

Before the attack, James stabbed a man in his 20s in the back in the street, the court heard.

Minutes later, around 07:50 BST, Kaur’s door was kicked in as the family of three slept in bed.

Prosecutor Charlene Semnal said Kaur’s husband woke up to his wife’s screams and saw a figure coming out of the bedroom.

Kaur was stabbed in the chest and was pronounced dead at 08:26 BST.

The accused was treated at the hospital before being taken to jail.

He has been charged with Kaur’s murder, as well as attempted murder and possession of a knife.

On Thursday, James, of Mercer Place, Pinner, West London, appeared via videolink at the Old Bailey at Wormwood Scrubs.

Judge Nigel Lickley Casey set an appeal hearing for October 1 and James was remanded in custody.
