1Password has launched a new Claude browser that allows the Anthropic chatbot to access stored security information such as usernames and passwords. Claude’s 1Password feature means users can let Claude complete a number of tasks like booking travel and managing online accounts on their behalf without manually typing in their login credentials, but without exposing your security credentials to Anthropic’s AI models, according to 1Password.
This is possible thanks to the “zero-exposure security framework” developed by 1Password, which works by entering the necessary passwords for each application through a secure method that Claude’s agent cannot see. This means that even AI can be licensed work your saved information, cannot see your passwords or one-time MFA codes.
Claude’s access is granted for each application, and 1Password says users can quickly accept or reject any request with a single biometric. That’s still a bit of a hassle, but it’s easier compared to taking up space to log in temporarily. As a precaution, 1Password says it checks the page once it loads automatically to make sure nothing has been submitted before it’s revealed before returning control to Claude.
“The moment the AI assistant starts monitoring the browser, 1Password locks itself out, limiting the access to credentials that have been clearly provided in the current task,” 1Password said in its press release. “Nothing else in the 1Password vault can be found.”
Claude’s 1Password is available to 1Password users on Mac, on business, family, and personal plans. The 1Password desktop app and browser add-on are required to use the feature, as well as the Claude desktop app and browser add-on.
You can store security information in 1Password storage, including passwords, passkeys, 2FA codes, API tokens, and personal information such as your address and financial information. 1Password doesn’t specify what credentials Claude will be able to access, but it appears to be limited in terms of logins for now – the company says support for payment cards and credentials will be available once it’s launched.
