He was seen comforted by his equally furious wife David as England’s World Cup dream ended.
The fashion mogul previously said she wasn’t much of a football fan when she met Beckham in 1997, but became a regular at matches.
Beckham represented England at three FIFA World Cups in 1998, 2002 and 2006 – the latter two as captain.
After receiving a red card for kicking Diego Simeone against Argentina in the 1998 World Cup, the former footballer was vilified across England.
In the years that followed, he faced massive media backlash – starting with the 2002 World Cup draw in Argentina.
28 years later, Diego’s son Giuliano Simone was a member of the Argentine team.
Beckham posted on Instagram following England’s defeat: “Heartbreak for all of us will be nothing but memories and will last forever… Thank you to our team, our fans and our country for this World Cup.”
After two decades in football, Beckham, 51, retired in 2013 before investing in US club Inter Miami to sign Argentine star Lionel Messi – considered one of the world’s greatest footballers in 2023.
Beckham’s reach and popularity only increased during the World Cup tournament in the United States, where he became the face of soccer mania along with Messi.
His face is often plastered on advertisements in North America and the former striker was recently honored with a Hollywood Walk of Fame.
