Portugal’s Jose Mourinho has dropped out of the list of prominent candidates to take over as Real Madrid coach next season, journalist Paco Gonzalez has confirmed on Radio Cadena Cope.
Gonzalez explained that Mourinho’s recent statements about Argentinian player Pristiani, who was sanctioned by the European Football Association (UEFA) for homophobic insults, closed the door on the possibility of “The Special One” returning to the Royal Club.
Commenting on the player’s punishment, Mourinho said. “If I was in the stands, I’d be clapping too,” in a stance that reflects his redoubled defense of the player, even after the penalty was announced.
This situation causes concern within the club, especially since the insults were directed at the Brazilian star Vinicius Junior.
Real Madrid officials fear a potential signing for Mourinho could lead to tensions in the dressing room, especially in light of Vinicius having an extension offer on the table.
Gonzalez added decisively. “After Mourinho came back and said he would applaud Pristiani, imagine what will happen to Vinicius.”

Mourinho has a reputation for dealing with dressing rooms and knows Real Madrid well from his previous experience, but these statements make him a risky option at the moment.
Gonzalez said the final decision rests with club president Florentino Perez, who is keeping a close eye on other options, including Argentina’s Mauricio Pochettino, who will soon finish his World Cup commitment with America.
