Argentina’s players have taunted England and their fans after the two teams played in the 2026 World Cup semi-finals.
Argentina won 2/1in the final against Spain next Sunday.
The newspaper said:Brand:“It wasn’t just a football game. And it will never be that way between England and Argentina. The 1982 armed conflict over the sovereignty of the Falkland Islands and Argentina’s defeat in that war are still fresh in the minds of Argentines, who use every opportunity to stake their claim to the South Atlantic archipelago.”
He continued. “After their victory in the semi-finals of the World Cup, the players of the Argentine national team lowered a banner on the field, which read: “The Falkland Islands are Argentine.”
“Lo Celso took a commemorative photo with him, placed him on the grass and the players gathered around him, making him the focus of the celebration.”
It is expected that this move will inflame the anger of the English people, who will not accept what the Argentine players did easily.
The Falklands War was an armed conflict between Argentina and the United Kingdom from 2 April to 14 June 1982.
The war began when Argentina’s military junta ordered troops to land on the Falkland Islands, which had been under British control since 1833, in a desperate bid to unify the country.
Britain responded very harshly, amassing a massive naval force to retake the territory.
A conflict ensued that lasted 74 days and ended with the surrender of the Argentines, which left a tragic human toll of 649 Argentine soldiers and 255 British soldiers dead.
