Final arbitral opinion. Did Enzo Fernandez escape being sent off against England?

A physical firefight between the two teams

In the 12th minute of the England-Argentina semi-final match of the 2026 World Cup, a shot was fired, which caused great controversy.

The first half was a real physical battle all over the pitch, with Enzo Fernandez, Argentina’s international, bringing England’s Anderson to the ground after a vicious challenge.

The England players demanded to punish the Argentinian player by sending him off, but the American referee Ismail Al-Fath did not answer them.

The “Archivo Far” network, which specializes in arbitration cases, said through its “X” account: “Is what happened enough to give Enzo a straight red card after interfering with Anderson?”

He continued. “The Argentinian player jumps on his English counterpart and hits him between the back and the head with his hand.”

He concluded. “Although the Argentine is taking a risk, there is not the necessary intensity to be considered excessive force and therefore no red card.”
