Fourteen-year-old boy accused of attacking London mosques | Issues of Islamophobia

The suspect has been charged with “organisation of terrorism – related to far-right terrorism”, British police said.

A 14-year-old boy arrested by British police has been charged with “terrorism” in connection with a plot to shoot up local mosques.

London’s Metropolitan Police unveiled an unnamed case against the boy on Wednesday, saying he was suspected of planning “terrorist activities” related to “right-wing ideology”.

Helen Flanagan, London’s head of counter-terrorism, said: “This is a serious act of terrorism against a young man and it is bound to have a huge impact on the community and the community.

Police say they do not believe the case represents a serious threat, but have contacted the mosque, which is located in south London’s Sutton, and offered advice and support.

“We know this will have a huge impact on the Muslim community and we are working with the affected communities to make sure they are updated and provide advice, support and reassurance, and this will continue,” Flanagan said.

The British police arrested the boy first on July 9 for the damage to the car, but later they were investigating the documents they found which led to the charge of “behavior prepared to achieve the purpose of committing a terrorist act”, said the Metropolitan Police.

The suspect is expected to appear in court in London on Thursday.

The incident is the latest in a series of alleged attacks against Muslims in the United Kingdom.

Earlier this week, British police they arrested 12 people in relation to an “extreme right-wing” plot to target an Islamic conference held in Suffolk in the east of England.

Last month, a man was charged with attempted murder in connection with “terrorism” after going to war people who are suspected of being anti-Muslim in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Detective Chief Superintendent Nick Blackburn, who oversees policing in south London, said authorities would try to provide “encouragement and support” to local Muslims following the recent arrests.

“We should not underestimate the number of such incidents in the Muslim community,” he said.
