A man has been arrested after threatening to shoot UK reform leader Nigel Farage on social media.
The arrest was linked to a post on X that was reported to police on May 8, a day after local and mayoral elections.
The Met Police said a man in his 20s was arrested on Tuesday this week on suspicion of sending threatening communications to an MP in south London.
Further questions are warranted.
The arrest comes six days after Reform spokeswoman Anne Widdecombe was murdered at her home in Devon.
The Parliamentary Liaison and Investigations Team informed Farage of the arrest on Wednesday.
“This is the first time that the police have taken active action on social media, and I hope that this year alone they will see another three or four hundred similar posts,” Farage said.
His party’s Home Affairs spokesman said the Reform UK government would provide “day-to-day protection” for all MPs.
Zia Yusuf also said that Faraj “lives his life in mortal danger” and that “those who question his security needs must stop”.
