Clashes broke out between groups of fans in the US city of Atlanta hours before the 2026 World Cup semi-final between Argentina and England, leading to three arrests and security forces stepping in to contain the situation.
The events began at a mass gathering organized by fans of the Argentina national team, when verbal clashes between fans of the two Argentinian clubs San Lorenzo and Huracán escalated into fist fights and then into the throwing of chairs and wooden planks amid chaos.
The incident came at a time when security authorities were mainly focused on preventing potential clashes between Argentina and England fans, as the stadium has separate seats for fans of both teams, but this time the violence broke out between Argentine fans.
My network is listed TYC: The two Argentine leaders noted that the tension between the two groups was preceded by provocative messages that were exchanged on social networks, and also recalled similar clashes that took place between them during the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

The fan kit included references to several Argentine clubs, including Racing, Excursionistas, Barracas Central, Almirante Brown, Belgrano and Independiente Rivadavia, in addition to other references to clubs from various divisions.
After clashes broke out, a number of mobs fled the scene, while local police quickly responded to reports from bystanders and managed to control the situation, while three people continued the attacks and were arrested.
Argentine security sources confirmed, according to the same network, that anyone proven to be involved in the incident and whose identity is revealed will be subject to permanent bans from Argentina’s stadiums.
He added that some of those involved had faced similar penalties in the past before they were overturned in the run-up to the World Cup.
The incident caused further concern among the organizing authorities, who were required to deal not only with the possibility of clashes between Argentina and England fans, but also with acts of violence between the Argentine fan associations themselves.
