Lamine Yamali is just one match away from a historic achievement, the World Cup final.
The young Spanish star, who stole the limelight with Barcelona all season and then continued his brilliance at the 2026 World Cup, is on the verge of an achievement that could go down in the annals of the game for decades if he can complete the mission in the final game.
Spain qualified for the final after defeating France with two unanswered goals in the semi-finals, setting up La Roja with a date with the winner of the match between Argentina and England in a game that could give Yamal the first world title of his career.
The stakes are not limited to lifting the World Cup, as the coronation could be the gateway for the 19-year-old star to win the Ballon d’Or in 2026, after a fine season with Barcelona in which he won the Spanish league and Super Cup titles, in addition to individual records that made him one of the world’s most famous players.
The Ballon d’Or ceremony will take place on October 26, and if Yamal wins the award, he will become the youngest player in history at 19 years and 105 days, surpassing Brazilian legend Ronaldo Nazario’s record from 1997, when he won it at 21 years and 95 days.
Yamal settled for second place in the Ballon d’Or standings last year, but he enters the current competition with a stronger case given his standout season with Barcelona and a World Cup final appearance with Spain.
The Spanish star is just 90 minutes away from a World Cup title that could not only give him glory with his country’s national team, but could also open the door for him to write a new chapter in Ballon d’Or history.
