Manchester United have signed Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa for £36m.
The 29-year-old has signed a five-year deal at Old Trafford and becomes the second midfielder to sign in the summer window, after the club already confirmed a £50million arrival. Andre Santos from chelsea
Tielemans said in a club statement: “It’s hard to describe how proud I am to be joining Manchester United.
“It feels incredible to sign for such a special club, the culmination of years of dedication since I first fell in love with football.
“I have had the opportunity to experience success in the game and it has increased my determination to achieve more.
“The ambition of everyone at the club is very clear; we are all determined to push for the biggest trophy in the coming years.”
This summer, he played – and captained – five times for Belgium at the World Cup. Scored twice in a 3-2 win over Senegal in the last 32.
Tielemans has been at Villa since 2023, when he joined on a free transfer from Leicester City, and has made 134 appearances for the club, scoring 10 times.
In that time, Villa have qualified for the Champions League twice, reaching the quarter-finals of that competition, and won the Europa League last season under Unai Emery, with Tielemans opening the scoring in the final against Freiburg.
Before joining Villa, Tielemans won the FA Cup and Community Shield at Leicester.

Many have concluded that Villa’s exit from the Premier League title race picture in February coincided with Tilleman’s ankle injury. They went from a team that won 10 of 13 league games to a team that lost four of their next seven.
So while absent, the Belgian was a vital fixture in the Villa midfield due to his all-round midfield control. He is outstanding in the dual game – with one of the best tackle success rates among Premier League midfielders – but he is also crucial on the ball.
Tielemans was able to break the line and deliver that killer pass. His through-ball numbers are among the most creative players in the Premier League.
Tielemans has emerged as a shock candidate to rebuild Manchester United’s midfield but he is someone who arguably ticks more boxes than anyone else on the Old Trafford shortlist.
For a club ready for Champions League toil, as well as a desire to better their current Premier League position, Tielemans represents a ready-made alternative to what proved so successful for United last season. Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha stepped up for United last season and were examples of shrewd business from INEOS.

The 29-year-old joins with a CV as impressive as his goal haul. He scored the winning goal in Leicester City’s FA Cup final victory in 2021, won the Europa League final against Aston Villa again last season and captained Belgium at the 2026 World Cup.
Tielemans brings composure to possession, leads without an armband and does it all at the highest level. INEOS is planning for the long term but this should not be detrimental to what United wants to achieve immediately. Tielemans is an obvious fit and could be an early shout for a summer signing.

Sky Sports’ Daniel Khan has confirmed that Yuri Tielemans has completed a £36m move to Manchester United, with the Red Devils still looking to add more midfield reinforcements this summer.
“When you look at Santos, when you look at the Tielemanns in that midfield, maybe with Kobi Mainu as well, maybe that midfield lacks a little bit of legs, a little bit of athleticism, and that’s what they thought they were playing. Ederson of Atlanta.
“We now know that United are no longer following that agreement.
“But I think another midfielder is on the cards, a different profile of midfielder and I think that will be their next priority, as well as looking at another left-back.
“Maybe another left winger but when Marcus Rashford’s World Cup is over they have to decide their future.
“How it looks, we’ll wait and see, but it looks like they’re going to reintegrate him into Michael Carrick’s team at Old Trafford.
“But it is still the start of the transfer window for Manchester United to compete on all fronts next summer with a return to Champions League football.”
