An NHS ambulance trust is investigating allegations that staff improperly accessed records of victims of the Southport attack.
The father of one of the young girls who was seriously injured in the July 2024 attack was left horrified by the incident and accused North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) staff of wanting to “satisfy their own curiosity”.
In May, dozens of workers were seen at Aintree Hospital where they treated injured people. He looked at the records for no good reason.
NWAS chief executive Salman Desai said: “We have identified concerns about inappropriate access to patient records and are regularly investigating the matter.”
Three young girls – Alice da Silva Aguirre, Bebe King and Elsie Dot Stancombe – were killed and 10 others were injured in the attack.
The father of the injured 13-year-old girl, who survived the attack, said: “This completely shatters our faith as a family in our darkest hour and undermines your sense of the amazing work you do to save lives.
“It was extremely difficult to think that the staff at Aintree Hospital were unnecessarily involved in our son’s condition.”
He could not be identified because he was ordered to protect his daughter, who was helping manage the dance floor before stabbing the son in the back and arm.
Lawyers representing the girl and 21 other survivors of the attack have called for a full review of NHS England’s guidance and disciplinary procedures for staff who improperly access patient data.
The call comes after another trust, NHS University Hospitals Liverpool Group (UHLG), admitted in May that around 50 staff at Aintree Hospital inappropriately looked at the medical records of some victims in the days after the attack.
Fletchers’ solicitors, who are already investigating the breach, were reviewing documents provided to the family by UHLG about the breach in Aintree, when they saw information that North West Ambulance Service staff may have had access to their son’s records without reason.
