This World Cup has been big, competition wise, as it is first plus 48 teams in the tournament instead of the 32 that were previously held in the World Cup. Due to the number of teams, the format of the tournament is different from previous World Cups. The countries were first sorted into groups (labeled AL) and played matches in the First Division within those groups.
The winners of those games continued in the Round of 32 stage, then were eliminated in the Round of 16. After that, the winners went to the quarterfinals, which ended last week.
