Phil Parkinson looks to progress as Wrexham face Man Utd, Liverpool, Leeds and Sunderland

Wrexham finished seventh in 2025–26, their first campaign in English football’s second-highest division since 1982.

The North Wales side improved last season, breaking into the top six for the first time at the end of January and never dropping below seventh for the remainder of the campaign.

Wrexham’s worst run of form came at the start of the season, with just 10 points from their first 10 games.

Parkinson believes the slow start was thanks to the disruption caused by an overhaul of his playing staff last summer – and says more must come from a more settled squad now.

“I feel with us that our group has improved because a lot of guys came in late (last year) and it took us a while to get to know them individually and work with them collectively,” he said.

“We went to Australia (in pre-season) and then got signed.

“All the guys who missed a lot of pre-season last year – (Lewis) O’Brien, Sheffey (Ben Sheff), (Josh) Windus, (Liberetto) Cacas, Brodie (Nathan Broadhead) and Kiefer (Moore). I think we’re going to give us a huge advantage to have that group together.

“I think an improvement (should come) from the group we’ve got.”
