Hours before the 2026 World Cup semi-final against England in Atlanta, reports emerged accusing Argentina’s soccer association of questionable financial practices after it demanded $6 million to host a friendly with Mexico.

The reports coincide with news of the US Federal Bureau of Investigation’s investigation into money-laundering allegations against the Argentine federation, linked to payments worth $300 million through its Miami office.

Lionel Messi’s Argentina are set to face Thomas Tuchel’s England in the semi-finals of the 2026 World Cup on Wednesday amid this storm of financial allegations, with Argentina’s federation yet to make an official comment.
