The numbers do not lie. Yamal 8 – 2 Mbappe

Who wins the battle of Dallas?

The 2026 World Cup semi-final between France and Spain at the AT&T Stadium in Dallas, USA will be more than just a battle between two giants, but a direct clash between two international stars who go beyond the traditional footballer: Kylian Mbappé and Lamin Yamal.

According to Spanish newspaper Marca, the showdown brings together two personalities who dominate commercials and ignite fans’ enthusiasm as soon as they hit the screens, in a clash with artistic and psychological dimensions that could decide the fate of the final’s qualifying card.

France… a story of shining stars

Semi-final matches have become a regular occurrence for France, as this is their 8th appearance in this round, as the French team has always been led by a bright star who carries the nation’s hopes on his shoulders.

After reaching their first semi-final in 1958, led by the legendary Just Fontaine, who scored an all-time record 13 goals in just six games for the Swedish side, Michel Platini starred for France in 1982 and 1986, before Zinedine Zidane led the Roosters to the 19902 final and won the title in 1998.

Kylian Mbappe leads the team today in his third appearance as France captain at the World Cup, aiming to achieve the same goal he had in the previous two games, to reach the finals. At Russia 2018, he won the title by scoring the decisive goal, and at Qatar 2022, he lost the title on penalties, despite scoring a historic hat-trick in the final to save his team 15 minutes from normal time.

With a staggering 20 goals in 20 World Cup games, the France No.10 is the undisputed star of the game and Spain’s biggest concern.

The rising star who threatens Mbappe’s throne

But on the other side of the field, a rising star is emerging strongly. A youngster who turned 19 just hours before the semi-finals and wanted to do his best in this tournament is Lamin Yamal.

As for Spain, this is only their second appearance in a World Cup semi-final, but this time it includes a player with a global impact unprecedented in La Roja history, although their most obvious strength remains the team’s collective spirit.

Yamal is superior to Mbappé

Although the match between France and Spain cannot be reduced to a direct confrontation between Yamal and Mbappe, many of the keys to this showdown between the two giants lie in this pair, and in this context Spain has a clear advantage.

Lamine Yamal has beaten Mbappé’s teams 8 times out of 10 in his elite career, while the French forward has managed just two victories.

The match in “Dallas” will be the third meeting between them in the jerseys of the respective countries, and in this context the Spaniard has an ideal record of two consecutive victories.

The first came recently in the semi-finals of the European Championship when Yamal scored a stunning equalizer at the Allianz Arena in Munich before Dani Olmo sealed it for Spain minutes later.

As for the second victory, it was a year ago in the semifinals of the Europa League, when Spain won with a dramatic result (5-4), in which Yamal scored twice and Mbappe scored for France.

Two crucial wins for Mbappe

In both of Mbappé’s victories over Yamal, the Frenchman had a decisive and direct role. The first was Luis Enrique’s Paris Saint-Germain’s 4–1 win over Xavi Hernández’s Barcelona in the 2023–24 Champions League quarter-finals, in which Mbappe scored twice.

The second was this season, when Real Madrid won 2-1 at the Santiago Bernabeu in a game Mbappe himself opened, ending with Vinicius Junior making angry statements and condemning Xabi Alonso.

Today, the two stars meet again in the most important showdown between them to date, as each will look to impose their dominance and lead their team to the finals dream on American soil.
