Wildfires continue to burn across the UK as fire chiefs warn of high pressure.

The wildfires at the weekend affected Hampshire, Durham, West Sussex, East Sussex, Devon and Somerset.

In Wales, the major incident declared at the Conwy wildfire is now under control, North Wales Fire and Rescue Service Assistant Chief Fire Officer Justin Evans said.

But firefighters are still tackling a number of active fires, including in Braichmelin Forest near Bethesda and in the Rhinogid mountain ranges near Harlech.

“I haven’t seen anything of that scale,” said farmer Gareth Wynne Jones, whose land borders Conwy Mountain.

“It was unreal,” he said, explaining that the ponies grazing on the mountain had escaped, fearing the neighboring pigs because the fire was on the surrounding land.

“The biggest fear is that they will be suffocated in the smoke, but the smoke carried them,” he said, confirming that the animals survived.

Elsewhere, firefighters remain at the scene of a severe moorland fire on Tintwistle Moor near Doveston Reservoir in the Peak District.

30 to 40 firefighters It burned 260 hectares (642 acres) of moorland and woodland..

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service’s chief fire officer Ben Levy warned crews were in for a “very challenging and stressful day” as high temperatures, strong winds and dry conditions continued to fuel the blaze.

He urged people to take extra precautions in rural areas to reduce the risk of further wildfires.
